GERD Treatment

GERD occurs when the small valve between the stomach and esophagus (the lower esophageal sphincter or LES) leaks, causing stomach acid to back up from the stomach and into the esophagus. This acid irritates the esophagus which leads to numerous symptoms. GERD can ultimately damage the delicate lining on the inside of the esophagus which can lead to serious complications and even cancer (Esophageal cancer) in some patients.

GERD Treatment: Frequent heartburn or Acid Indigestion is the most common symptom of GERD and often occur after meals. This condition is often described as an uncomfortable, burning sensation behind the breastbone.

Other major symptoms of GERD are: regurgitation of stomach acid or sour taste in mouth; difficult and/or painful swallowing. Less common symptoms of GERD can be as simple as recurrent sinus infections, coughing without known cause, and constant bad breath. These less common symptoms are often referred to as Silent Reflux since they often go undiagnosed for years.

What steps can be taken to relieve symptoms of GERD?

There a few courses of treatment for GERD. The doctor’s first line of treatment is to suggest you follow simple lifestyle changes, second would be prescribing Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI’s) to reduce the acid in your stomach and third, surgery is often recommended in severe cases.

The average cost for a one month supply of prescription reflux medication can average anywhere from $150 to $350 without insurance, so in one month or less for what you would be spending on medications, you could pay for your new Gravity1st™ Elevated Sleep Systems mattress.

Always follow your doctor’s direction.
